Recently I took part in my first ever marathon program. Although the run was not a marathon, but a 10K run. After participating, a question came into my mind, why do people run in a marathon?

I asked this question to a community of runners.

Let’s know their experiences and thoughts on being a marathoner.

For privacy, I am using a made-up name.

Mr. Ben said, “It’s fun to run”.

Mr. Dan said “The most obvious reasons to run a marathon are the positive health, mental well-being, weight loss and cardiovascular health benefits. Also, I can connect with the broad running community”.

Mr. Nas said, “ I love the affection of this community. Running became my addiction and I love running”.

Miss Rose said, “ For me, as I am lazy about my fitness, marathon pushes me to take it a step further and gain a lot of confidence in myself”.

Misses Taz said “It’s my love”.

Mr. Reza said, “ For recreation and mentally soundness as well as enjoy the after feeling of marathon which is not explanatory”.

Mr. Saj said, “ when we attend a marathon, it becomes a reunion of same minded people as well as promoting awareness, travel to a new place, sometimes without a purpose. You know what, sometimes when we do something without purpose, that feels great’.

Mr Johora said, “When we set a goal for strengthening our body, if we set goal, then running becomes easy’.

Mr. Shamimul said, “ I love traveling and running. Marathon blends these two and provides smoothies to me. And it tastes fabulous”.

A runner who didn’t take part yet at a marathon also shares her experience. She said “ I think when so many people run it gives a thrill and it becomes enjoyable which cheers people a lot’’.

Mr Moon was healthy, but it became an addiction.

Mr . Akram said, “ Some go for podiums, some for photo sessions, some for publicity, some for travel, some for medals and some for fun or building a network’’.

Mr. Rimon says it in a fun way. He said, “Sometimes I go crazy and do fun full marathons. But now I want to keep myself self to the limit like half Marathon and enjoy it fully.

Mr. Robiul said “ Do you think alcohol or marijuana is the top addiction? I think marathons are more than that”.

If I sum up, almost everybody said “They did it for travel, fun, love for marathon, became addicted, connected with the broad runner community and for medal".

what’s your reason?

I would love to know.
